Canadian lockdown stories unlocked—40 NFB creators give a voice to millions. NFB presents The Curve: a pan-Canadian perspective on COVID-19, launching August 24 with three short docs.

A living document of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Film Board of Canada’s online project The Curve begins its official launch today with three short documentaries from the NFB’s North West Studio: Kristin Catherwood’s In the Garden on the Farm, Melaw Nakehk’o’s K’i Tah Amongst the Birch and Galen Johnson’s Thursday.

NFB VR innovation highlighted at one of world’s top festivals. Pietro Gagliano’s Agence, Michelle and Uri Kranot’s The Hangman at Home – VR and Randall Okita’s The Book of Distance showcased at the Venice International Film Festival.

The National Film Board of Canada’s leadership in virtual reality innovation will be on display at the 77th Venice International Film Festival (September 2 to 12) with three NFB produced and co-produced VR works: Pietro Gagliano’s Agence (Transitional Forms/NFB), Michelle and Uri Kranot’s The Hangman at Home – VR (Late Love Production/Floréal Films/Miyu Productions/NFB) and Randall Okita’s The Book of Distance.

In August, even more new works will be available free on NFB.ca. Get set for the world premiere of the interactive story Bubble, the latest documentary by Alanis Obomsawin, and the official launch of The Curve, a collection of projects exploring life during the pandemic.

Our selection of original works from NFB studios across the country includes the world premiere presentation of Bubble, an interactive story for mobile devices created by the 2019 cohort of Jeunes pousses, the NFB x UQAM interactive school, the feature-length documentary Jordan River Anderson, The Messenger by Alanis Obomsawin, and the animated short Balakrishna by Colin MacKenzie and Aparna Kapur.

As the country and the world face the historic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, production is now under way at the National Film Board of Canada on The Curve, a collection of approximately 30 projects by more than 40 Canadian creators that will give voice to those touched by the pandemic, in communities from west to east and far into the North.
