Fresh from winning the People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, Matthew Rankin’s Ladies and Gentlemen, Brian Mulroney headlines a National Film Board of Canada (NFB) lineup of six powerful feature documentaries at the Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF).

Running from October 29 to November 8, the festival has nominated the genre-bending film by Montreal-based, Winnipeg-born filmmaker Matthew Rankin for WIFF’s Prize in Canadian Film.

The NFB selection in Windsor also includes:

• All Things Are No Longer Equal by Quebec painter and filmmaker Martin Bureau;
• I Lost Sight of the Landscape by Montreal director Sophie Bédard Marcotte;
• LOUF by Montreal-based Canadian-Egyptian filmmakerAziz Zoromba;
• O Fear, O Night by Montreal director Christine Chevarie-Lessard;
• Still Night, Burning House (Metafilms/NFB/Portage Films) by Montreal-based Vietnamese-Canadian filmmaker Carol Nguyen.

• In 1976, Brian Mulroney launched a charm offensive the likes of which Canada had never seen, dismantling the political establishment one dad joke at a time. In this psychedelic doomscroll through the mind of a master politician, filmmaker Matthew Rankin charts the flamboyant rise of Canada’s 18th prime minister. 

LOUF by Aziz Zoromba (109 min)

• Zoromba follows acclaimed chef Fadi Kattan and Canadian co-venturer Nicole Mankinen as they race to open a Palestinian restaurant in Toronto. While their dream takes shape, escalating attacks devastate Gaza and the West Bank. Part immersive food film and part urgent record, LOUF is a powerful meditation on diaspora, resistance and the politics of preservation.

O Fear, O Night (La peur, la nuit) by Christine Chevarie-Lessard (70 min)

• At a time when everyone is talking about anxiety, Christine Chevarie-Lessard tries to understand the ever-present fear inside her. In a story that blends introspection, emotion and humour, fear is shown to be at times dangerous, at times transformative, but always powerful and universal.
