For the 12th edition of the National Film Board of Canada’s FREE online showcase Get Animated!, the NFB is celebrating International Animation Day (October 28) and Halloween this year—with a special program that includes the online streaming premiere of Sylvie Trouvé and Dale Hayward’s chilling Slavic folklore-inspired short Bone Mother.
From November 8 to 18, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) will have a strong presence at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM), one of North America’s leading documentary film festivals, with seven new documentaries, an animated short, and an immersive virtual reality work.
Christine Chevarie-Lessard’s Point d’équilibre (A Delicate Balance) will be released in theatres in December, just in time for the holidays. The feature doc takes a sensitive, behind-the-scenes look at children in the École supérieure de ballet du Québec’s professional training program. It was produced by Chantal Lafleur and Geneviève Thibert (Productions Avenida) and Nathalie Cloutier (NFB), with Colette Loumède (NFB) as executive producer.

Starting October 18, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) will be streaming Luc Bourdon’s feature documentary The Devil’s Share free of charge at NFB.ca. The film is currently available in download-to-own (DTO) HD format.
The NFB returns in full force to the Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (FCIAT) with eight short films, including five documentaries from the Projet 5 courts (5 Shorts Project) (Nadagam Films/NFB), which will be having their world premiere with the directors in attendance: Mamie et Mia (Granny and Mia) by Émilie Villeneuve, Les enfants des nomades (Children of the Nomad) by Evelyne Papatie, Délia de 9 à 5 (Délia from 9 to 5) by Délia Gunn, La charge mentale pour les nuls (The Mental Load for Dummies) by Jessy Poulin and Orteils talons orteils talons (Toes Heels Toes Heels) by Gabrielle Cornellier. The three other shorts rounding out the lineup at the festival are the animated films Animal Behaviour (Zoothérapie) (NFB) by Alison Snowden and David Fine, Le sujet (The Subject) (NFB) by Patrick Bouchard, and Caterpillarplasty (Papillioplastie) (NFB) by David Barlow-Krelina. The FCIAT will take place in Rouyn-Noranda and runs from October 27 to November 1, 2018.
The talents of Vancouver-based animators, directors and performers will be on vivid display in the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) lineup at the 2018 SPARK ANIMATION Festival (October 25 to 28), with four NFB films selected, including Julia Kwan’s The Zoo (NFB/ Fire Horse Productions), making its world premiere.
Acadian filmmaker Daniel Léger’s latest film, The Artisans, produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), is having its world premiere as the opening film of the 32nd Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie (FICFA) on Thursday, November 15, at 8 p.m. The screening is taking place at Moncton’s Théâtre Capitol and will be attended by protagonists from the film, along with the director and Christine Aubé, a producer at the NFB’s Canadian Franophonie Studio – Acadie. Samara Grace Chadwick’s feature documentary 1999 will open in Montreal at the Cinémathèque québécoise on October 19 and on October 21 in English at Cinema Moderne, a few days after making its grand American premiere at the Museum of the Moving Image (New York). Co-produced by Parabola Films, Beauvoir Films and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), 1999 has been screening at festivals in Canada and abroad since the spring, garnering acclaim at Hot Docs (Toronto), the Festival international de cinéma Visions du Réel (Nyon, Switzerland), the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma (Montreal) and the Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie (Moncton).
