Em Yue

Em Yue is a Chinese-American artist and filmmaker from North Carolina. Their work in documentary animation and interactive media explores the intersections of queerness, language, and technology through the lens of tenderness. After studying photojournalism and studio art at UNC-Chapel Hill, they relocated to Los Angeles where they are currently pursuing an MFA in experimental animation at the California Institute of the Arts.

Akmyrat Tuyliyev

Akmyrat Tuyliyev is a Turkmen new media artist and producer working at the intersection of storytelling, technology and culture.

Tuyliyev’s work spans across various platforms, including VR/AR, web-based experiences and large-scale projection mapping. At POV Spark, the interactive arm of the long-running PBS documentary series POV, Tuyliyev served as an interactive producer, where he produced interactive independent non-fiction projects.

Tuyliyev produced and showcased new media experiences with the Austrian Cultural Forum, The History Channel, the Museum of Other Realities, Frank Gehry’s IAC Building Video Wall, The High Line and Made in NY Media Center by IFP.

He is a Master’s graduate from the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Associate Producer

Aja Evans

Aja Evans is an associate producer at POV Spark, the interactive arm of American Documentary’s PBS doc series POV, whose projects include Atomu (Sundance, 2020), Changing Same (Sundance, 2021), and the development of new works and artist experimentation through Production Labs and the African Interactive Art Residency.

At POV Spark Aja was a key collaborator in the creation of the interactive web platform PUBLIC UPDATE, home for exploratory content inviting audiences to expand their definition of documentary and its forms. She organized the department’s industry initiatives bringing together international partners to strengthen public media investment in emerging media and its distribution. She is the associate producer for Otherly a documentary series about belonging premiering on Instagram Stories in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada.

Before joining the POV Spark team Aja was an intern at America ReFramed, a weekly showcase of independent documentaries produced by American Documentary and WORLD Channel. She also served as the assistant producer for The Resistance Saga at Skylight, utilizing documentaries to celebrate and support the history of resistance movements across the Americas.

Previously Aja conducted research in cognitive and cellular neuroscience at New York University, Brown University, and the Rockefeller University. She was a BP-ENDURE scholar and received her B.S. in neuroscience at NYU. Her background in neuroscience drives her interests in storytelling and its impact. She continues to produce work in collaboration with independent creators driven by projects that promote agency, equity, and community.

Opeyemi Olukemi

Opeyemi Olukemi is part of POV’s Spark team, serving as Executive Producer and Vice President of American Documentary’s Interactive unit.

Throughout her career as an esteemed interactive producer, funder and public programmer, Opeyemi has created spaces and pipelines for interdisciplinary artists, communities, and content teams to experiment with and create meaningful innovative content.  She is a fierce advocate of technological equity and eliminating bias from social innovation.

Before joining POV, Opeyemi was the Senior Director of Interactive Programs for Tribeca Film Institute, where she oversaw the TFI New Media and TAA Prototype Funds and led the Institute’s Interactive programs.  From co-producing TFI Interactive—a day-long conference into the world of interactive storytelling—to founding TFI Interactive Playground—a showcase of immersive technologies and projects  Opeyemi has provided the interactive field with 360-degree support.  Opeyemi also led the Tribeca Hacks program—incubators, which create interactive prototypes—to the global stage through 21 distinct events. 

Through her creative funding programs and mentorship, she has help to incubate and produce interactive projects, including Elaine McMillion’s Peabody-awarded project Hollow, Karim Ben Khalifa’s The Enemy, Hank Willis Thomas’ Question Bridge, Shariffa Alis Atomu and the co-creation VR project Changing Same.

Before joining Tribeca Film Institute, Opeyemi produced for ScrollMotion and oversaw teams of designers, programmers, and third-party vendors to produce new media applications for clients such as Disney, O: The Oprah Magazine and Genentech.

Opeyemi has served on numerous festival juries and has mentored through the IDFA’s Doc Academy, New Museum’s NEW INC, Oculus’ VR for Good and Sundance’s New Frontier Lab.  Opeyemi has served as an assistant professor of Integrated Media at Brooklyn College’s Barry R. Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema and is a Rockwood (Ford Foundation) JustFilms Fellow.
