NFB’s Suzanne Guèvremont named to The Hollywood Reporter’s inaugural “Canada 25” list of industry leaders

September 3, 2025 – Montreal – National Film Board of Canada (NFB)

The Hollywood Reporter has named National Film Board of Canada (NFB) commissioner Suzanne Guèvremont to The Canada 25, its inaugural list of top deal and decision makers, recognizing her leadership and impact on Canada’s film industry.

Appointed Government Film Commissioner and Chairperson of the NFB in November 2022, Guèvremont is leading a revitalization of Canada’s public film producer and distributor. Under her direction, the NFB has embraced a new strategic vision—engaging with new audiences and fostering vital Canadian storytelling at a pivotal time in the country’s history.

Guèvremont and her fellow honourees will be celebrated at the 2025 THR Access Canada Summit, taking place September 8 to 10 in Toronto during the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Being named to The Canada 25 is powerful recognition of the NFB’s leadership in championing Canadian culture. Working with creators from coast to coast to coast, we produce and distribute documentaries and animated works that spark national dialogue. At a time when truth feels elusive and stories harder to trust, the NFB champions bold, courageous storytelling that invites Canadians to see, listen, question and connect,” said Suzanne Guèvremont, Government Film Commissioner and NFB Chairperson.

The third woman and first francophone woman to lead the NFB, Guèvremont has more than 25 years’ management experience in the higher education, culture and technology sectors. From 1999 to 2022, she was Director of Montreal’s École des arts numériques, de l’animation et du design (NAD-UQAC), which under her leadership became a globally recognized university. Ms. Guèvremont has served on a number of boards of national organizations, including CBC/Radio-Canada and the Bell Fund, as well as Quebec’s Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC).
