The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) returns to the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) with three films that offer fascinating perspectives on different artistic practices. The selection includes two world premieres: screening in the international competition, the feature-length auteur doc Plus haut que les flammes (Higher Than Flames Will Go) by Acadian filmmaker Monique LeBlanc, a film adaptation of Louise Dupré’s acclaimed book of poetry; and the short documentary À ciel ouvert, portrait d’un pavillon à Venise (Open Sky: Portrait of a Pavilion in Venice) by Katerine Giguère. In addition, Ellie Yonova’s feature-length documentary Luben and Elena will be having its Quebec premiere. FIFA runs from March 17 to 29, 2020, in Montreal and Quebec City.

Preview screenings of Moïse Marcoux-Chabot’s NFB-produced documentary series Ramaillages (Gatherings) will begin on February 14 in the Gaspésie, where the series was shot. This must-see series provides fresh insights into regional development, examining environmental challenges from a sensitive and enlightened perspective.
Catherine Lepage’s NFB animated short Le mal du siècle (The Great Malaise) will receive its international premiere in competition at the prestigious 70th annual Berlin International Film Festival, which runs February 20 to March 1, 2020.
After its world-premiere screening received a standing ovation from a sold-out house at the 2019 edition of the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM), the feature-length documentary Kenbe la, jusqu’à la victoire (Kenbe la, Until We Win), directed by Will Prosper and produced by the NFB, is opening on Friday, January 31, at the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montreal, in its original French and Creole version (French subtitles). A tour of Eastern Quebec will follow starting Monday, February 3.
