NFB’s GGPAA collection now 98 films. Seven new National Film Board of Canada shorts celebrate Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards laureates.

For the 12th consecutive year, the National Film Board of Canada is bringing together acclaimed filmmakers to create short cinematic tributes to Canadian performing arts legends, as the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA) gets set to honour laureates at its 28th annual Awards Gala, taking place Saturday, April 25, 2020, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) returns to the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) with three films that offer fascinating perspectives on different artistic practices. The selection includes two world premieres: screening in the international competition, the feature-length auteur doc Plus haut que les flammes (Higher Than Flames Will Go) by Acadian filmmaker Monique LeBlanc, a film adaptation of Louise Dupré’s acclaimed book of poetry; and the short documentary À ciel ouvert, portrait d’un pavillon à Venise (Open Sky: Portrait of a Pavilion in Venice) by Katerine Giguère. In addition, Ellie Yonova’s feature-length documentary Luben and Elena will be having its Quebec premiere. FIFA runs from March 17 to 29, 2020, in Montreal and Quebec City.

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) will be at the 38th Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma (RVQC), running from February 26 to March 7, 2020, with 17 productions and co-productions, including two world premieres: the documentary series Ramaillages (Gatherings) by Moïse Marcoux-Chabot and the feature documentary Loin de Bachar (Far from Bashar) by Pascal Sanchez.

Pre-launch screenings of Moïse Marcoux-Chabot’s Ramaillages (Gatherings, NFB) begin February 14 in the Gaspésie. Six-episode documentary series will be available on NFB.ca starting March 7.

Will Prosper’s NFB doc Kenbe la, jusqu’à la victoire (Kenbe la, Until We Win) screening in Montreal as of January 31, followed by Eastern Quebec tour in February. People’s Choice Award winner, RIDM 2019.

After its world-premiere screening received a standing ovation from a sold-out house at the 2019 edition of the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM), the feature-length documentary Kenbe la, jusqu’à la victoire (Kenbe la, Until We Win), directed by Will Prosper and produced by the NFB, is opening on Friday, January 31, at the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montreal, in its original French and Creole version (French subtitles). A tour of Eastern Quebec will follow starting Monday, February 3.
