  • When things go POP at the NFB Space:

Activity: The Girl with the Red Beret, with the filmmaker present

    • Immerse yourself in the creative process as filmmaker Janet Perlman takes you behind the scenes of her animated short The Girl with the Red Beret. Brimming with humour and good cheer, the film follows a young girl as she rides the Montreal metro to the tune of Kate and Anna McGarrigle’s timeless track, “Complainte pour Ste-Catherine.”
    • Experience live creation: give your ideas to the filmmaker, then watch as she adds your character to the crowd in a metro car, just like in the film!
    • Test your observational skills: can you spot Maurice Richard, Céline Dion or Leonard Cohen? Take the quiz challenge to find the famous Montrealers hidden in the film!

Strike a pose with Oscar®*

    • Your turn to shine on the red carpet! Pose with one of two real Oscars®: the Honorary Academy Award given to the NFB in 1988 for excellence in every area of filmmaking, and the Oscar® for Norman McLaren’s film Neighbours** in 1953.
    • Then share your GIF: dazzle your followers with your star power on your socials!

*Did you know? To date, NFB productions and co-productions have received 78 Oscar® nominations, more than any other film organization based outside Hollywood, in addition to 11 Oscars® and an Honorary Academy Award.

**In 2009, Neighbours was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Registry.

  • When things go POP at the Alanis Obomsawin Theatre:
